When a serious adverse event happens, we must let the people affected know, offer to meet with them, and apologise. This is an important part of being open with people who experience care, and also learning from things that go wrong. Our "Complaints & Duty of Candour" policy and our policy on "Abuse - Prevention, Identification and Investigation" include a section on Duty of Candour. These policies are issued as standard to all Service Users, Carers, Staff, Volunteers and Students on placement and are also made freely available on our website ensuring that our Duty of Candour is both acknowledged and promoted. We hereby confirm that between March 2018 and March 2019, we had NO serious adverse events requiring action under our Duty of Candour and that all new Staff, Volunteers and Students on placement received induction training that included our Duty of Candour. Existing Staff and Volunteers were also reminded of the policy in writing. From August 2020, our Duty of Candour annual report will be incorporated into the Groups main Annual Report and Accounts which are presented at the Annual General Meeting and posted online. At The East Kilbride & District Dementia Carers Group, We believe that people with dementia and their carers have the right to be treated according to human rights based principles set out in the Charter of Rights for People with Dementia and their Carers, regardless of where they are, and in every part of their daily lives.
This charter aims to empower people with dementia, those who support them and the community as a whole, to ensure their rights are recognised and respected. We have adopted the Charter of Rights for People with Dementia and their Carers in Scotland as a core policy. The Charter of Rights will be distributed to all Service Users, Carers, Staff and Volunteers, and will be promoted at every opportunity. You can also support the charter, by going to www.dementiarights.org and signing the online petition. |
